Relievers ...

Since there was so much bragging going on... There are 6 relievers with a sub 1 WHIP and a plus 1 K per 9.

WHIP K/9 ID#
0.53     1.25     A
0.67     1.76     B
0.72     1.83     C
0.84     1.53  D
0.95     1.17     E

0.98     1.17     F

Sorted by WHIP ... It might surprise you to know who ACTUALLY is the best.

But someone once told me to never let the facts stand in the way.

  1. The only RI reliever who qualifies for this list is Dotel -- and he's in the AL and might not be a hold.

  2. These six relieves are occupied in NL households and cover 5 SSOMBA teams.

  3. Kapellskar doesn't have a clue.

  4. Street (A) has half the innings as Chapman (C), I wouldn't charcterize that as the best. As for best card, it could be any of the top three, but Chapman has the best shot since the dominance of Kimbrel's (B) left side can only be so good and Chapman's stats are balance.

  5. Truthfully it's useless to argue which of these are better. They are all unhittable. You'll beat them by rolling on the hitters card.

  6. Kapellskar has Putz (F), New Hampshire has Motte (E) and Shag Harbour has Jansen (D).

As far as valuation of players, ANON has it right. All these guys will be tough. The subtle distinctions will come from ERA, TEAM DEF, PARK EFFECTS and as always with STRATO L/R can be a concern.

Ultra K's cards (10+ K/9) like Kimbrel, Marmol, Jansen, Chapman, Bastardo - all struggle to replicate their real life "K" stats with only Beachy, Axford, Hernandez getting within 15% variation in OUR replay. So that aspect of value is minimized by the game system.

Additionally, 5.0 H/9 pitchers seem to struggle (small sample size) Chapman, Bastardo, Jansen.

But Ultimately, best card will be best CARD, irregardless of innings (most usable card?) or even SSOMBA team.
